A Comprehensive After School Program
In 2001, HEROES implemented the Teens in Motivational Education (T.I.M.E.) peer education program with funding from the Department of Social Services. HEROES offices and youth center provides space to conduct the intervention. HEROES operated this program as an after school program. Over 1900 high risk youth have been reached through this educational program. The intervention targets male and female youth ages 7-18, grades 1-12 in Caldwell Parish.
The youth peer education program will provide teen pregnancy prevention education, academic enrichment, personal and social skills, arts and crafts, outdoor and indoor recreational activities, computer lab, and citizenship utilizing the Be Proud, Be Responsible curriculum.
Outcomes are measured by evaluating baseline data against follow up data. Also, participating surveys, sign-in sheets, questionnaires, report cards, and pre/post tests will be collected. In addition, students are encouraged to journal their experience with the program and complete a testimonial to measure program outcomes.
